Smartphones

I want a smartphone.

An iPhone would be great, but so would a Droid or, yes, a Windows phone (a friend let me toy with hers and it’s pretty cool). A few days ago, I gave up the chance to live in a big, beautiful apartment because it was more expensive than the other choice I had. It had been a hard decision until I realized the amount of money I’d be saving each month was equal to the money I’d be spending on a data plan for a smartphone… if I had one.

My flip phone does the job, but as a journalist, I long for the ability to do everything a smartphone can do from anywhere. I think it actually makes practical sense for someone in this profession to have one.

First Draft, the SPJ Generation J committee blog, just posted about this. The copy isn’t too clean (it’s written by a TV reporter), but it makes a point I agree with.
